What does it take to reach your full potential with metal?
- The right framework: A practice routine designed specifically for you and your goals.
- The right system: A straightforward system that makes implementation so easy you’ll show up daily.
"Why can't I just learn my favorite songs and get good?"
This would be like a cage fighter training by only sparring and hitting a bag. He probably wouldn’t win. There are specific ideas and techniques you must practice until they become instinct — so when learning songs, you focus on the unique ideas in each piece of music.
Here is the exact strategy that has made me the guitarist I am!
Practice guitar like a weight lifter
Think of learning guitar like getting in shape. You wouldn’t jump from machine to machine without a plan. You’d follow a written routine targeting all the necessary “muscle groups.”
It’s crucial to focus on all the ideas necessary to become the guitarist you want to be. This includes:
- Right hand: Most guitarists underestimate it. Developing basics early makes progression constant. Learn how to do this with just minutes a day.
- Left hand: Finger independence and strength — you’ll learn the best exercises for both.
- Hand synchronization: Your hands must work as one. Learn the secret to lightning-fast synchronization in weeks.
- Metal theory: We’ll cover the fundamentals so the language of music finally makes sense.
Learn entire songs
It’s not enough to learn a few riffs or play alone. As soon as you can, learn entire songs and play to the track or with other musicians. You’ll learn the most efficient way to do this — by the end, you’ll have learned your first full song and know how to repeat the process.
Make practicing super simple
Document your framework so you don’t need to think about what to practice each day. We’ll use flashcards: list the essential ideas, then simply run the stack when you sit down to practice.
"This doesn't sound like much fun! What if I just want to play songs and noodle around?"
This is not a good approach, and you likely won’t see the results you want. Remember the cage fighter who just spars and hits the bag?
Once you start to see daily progression with your riffing, it becomes fun and addicting.
I've given you the key:
- Structure your practicing like a weightlifter
- Learn entire songs ASAP
- Make the process of practicing very simple
Over the next six weeks, we’ll decide what goes on your flashcard!
As your new guitar coach, I’ve broken down the five key areas you need to focus on as a metal guitarist to see daily progression.
Week 1
Both hands & synchronization — galloping, alternate picking, trills, and more. Clear exercises and riffs for the basics.
Week 2
Advanced techniques — string skipping, pinch harmonics, power-chord riffing, metalcore riffing. Theory behind power chords + practice drills.
Week 3
Learn an entire metal song. See the efficient process and gain confidence to repeat it.
Week 4
Metal theory — fundamentals connected to the fretboard. The most important scale in metal and three essential chords.
Week 5
Write your own riffs. Three ways to write metal songs, then we’ll write one together.
Week 6
Build your flashcards. Decide what to focus on specifically to keep progressing with an effective framework.
Sign up before it's too late! The longer you wait, the more likely you will never reach your full potential as a metal guitarist!
